The Fragility and Beauty of Wildflowers: A Lesson for Us

“Wildflowers aren’t meant to be cut & tamed. They’re meant to be loved & admired.” – Anthony T. Hincks

During the spring, if you are willing to take a hike on a sun-filled trail, you may come across a meadow or field full of wildflowers. Sometimes it draws the breath away in awe of the magic and enchantment of the colors and delicate blossoms.

Red, blue, purple, yellow, white - the depth of their color against the emerald green of leaves is a special gift for the eyes.

It is the welcome and promise of Spring.

Unlike their sturdier cousins, our garden flowers with strong stems smile at you, not minding being picked to grace your dining table;  wildflowers ask us to look at their beauty for the fleeting moment, but please respect their fragility and honor them by leaving them alone.

It makes us think of people, who like wildflowers, may at times ask us to not engage.  They ask us to love our beautiful selves unconditionally, but to also recognize that sometimes we are delicate and will thrive and grow when left to just be.  Yet, like wildflowers, in their quiet way, they sow their own seeds of hope and promise…

Here are 6 lessons of wildflowers:

  1. Respect and honor the quiet of others.

  2. Understand that fragility in a person, even a strong person, is possible.

  3. Sometimes less is more in communication.

  4. Shyness in expression should also be respected, as the mind and soul are rich with creativity and introspection.

  5. There are times when each of us may ask for more “delicate” interaction… to be left alone.

  6. And finally, remember - there may be magic behind silence.
