Creativity Inspired by Nature

Oh, the wonder!

Plants, trees, flowers, birds, mountains, stars, and water.  They reflect patterns, colors, movement, and even chaos.  Every day they ask us to pause and reflect on the beauty and miracle of nature.

Their presence in our lives quickens the heart, the eye, and the hand… encouraging us to capture in some small way, with right-brain thinking and intuition, our creativity.  For some, it is photography, for others painting, weaving, baking, gardening, or music. Nature is an ever-present and rich source of inspiration.

But we first need to stop our chattering minds and observe.  It’s about stillness to feel the energy and presence of the world around us.   Nature asks us to reflect and remember.

WE ARE ALL CONNECTED!

So, each day take up a pencil, some clay, a paintbrush --- or that guitar, trowel, or spatula and create.  It’s not about being an expert or professional. Rather, it’s about color, patterns, and synchronicity from the heart and soul.

It’s about taking pride in what emerges.  A purity when inspired by the beauty and power of nature.

Here are five ways to be inspired by nature.

  1. When you take a walk or hike, slow down.  It’s not the destination, but the journey.

  2. Keep a journal handy, and jot down observations, ideas, and patterns you observe.

  3. Try to dedicate at least 20 minutes a day to using your right brain to be creative, vs using the left analytic side.

  4. Stay curious about what you see in nature – learn more about the trees, birds, and flowers.

  5. Step out of your comfort zone and take a class that nurtures your creativity.

  6. Immerse yourself in nature as often as possible and “Listen and Learn”.

Anyone can be creative…when Mother Nature is our Guide.
